Hey everyone, it’s Mervin from https://mervintimothyreyes.com
❄️🌲
Welcome to Part One of my Winter Survival Heating Plan series. In this episode, I’m taking you through one of the most essential aspects of off-grid and rural living—storing firewood the right way. When the cold season hits, especially in areas where electricity or gas isn’t guaranteed, having a solid firewood storage system can mean the difference between comfort and crisis.
But this isn’t just about stacking logs—it’s about being wise stewards of what God has given us and preparing our homes and families for whatever season comes. Preparation is not fear—it’s faith in action. 🪵🔥
🌨️ Why You Need A Winter Heating Plan
Winter brings both beauty and challenges. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 6:6–8 to “go to the ant,” a creature that prepares in advance for hard times. In the same way, wise believers prepare their households so that when the cold winds blow, they are ready—not scrambling.
✅ Energy independence — Don’t depend solely on the grid.
✅ Health protection — Stay warm to prevent sickness and discomfort.
✅ Family safety — Firewood is a backup plan that never fails.
✅ Faith in motion — Preparation honors the Creator who gives foresight.
Firewood has been humanity’s oldest and most reliable heat source. It’s sustainable, renewable, and deeply biblical. God has always provided natural resources for His people to use with wisdom and care.
🪵 Choosing and Storing Firewood the Right Way
When preparing for winter, not all wood is created equal. Hardwoods such as oak, ash, and maple burn longer and hotter, while softwoods like pine burn quickly but produce more creosote. Mixing both wisely is key.
Here’s what I’ve learned over years of experience:
✅ 1. Cut and season early: Wood should dry for at least 6–12 months.
✅ 2. Keep it off the ground: Use pallets or racks to prevent moisture.
✅ 3. Protect from rain and snow: Cover the top, but let air circulate from the sides.
✅ 4. Rotate your stock: Burn the oldest wood first.
✅ 5. Store near, not in, your home: Keep pests and mold away.
Each log you store represents wisdom, foresight, and peace of mind. In tough times, your firewood pile becomes a visible testimony of your diligence and stewardship.
✝️ Faith-Based Preparedness: God’s Wisdom For Every Season
The Word of God calls us to discern the times and seasons. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 24 that difficult days would come—but He also promised His faithful ones would endure.
This winter, I’m reminded that preparation is not about fear, it’s about faithful obedience. God gives us wisdom to plan, strength to work, and peace to rest when we’ve done our part.
So, when you prepare your home, chop wood, and store it neatly for the months ahead, you’re not just doing physical labor—you’re walking in spiritual readiness.
💬 “She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet.” — Proverbs 31:21
That’s what godly preparation looks like—faith meeting foresight.
